The only good option is to make the Dreambox 500s DVR out of a PC. Get the dual tuner card and Windows 7. Windows Media Center is great and I have had no issues filling the void my FIOS DVR left. Aside from the fact I went from 200+ channels to OTA ~13 channels.The Industry allowed the cable media cartels to kill this type of tech. By now I should be able to purchase a DVR from the store and record Dreambox 500s TV. There is no way in hell that the tech isn’t advanced enough for me to do this. If you truly believe this then you never owned a Tivo.  DirecTVs current DVRs do not come close to the fnctionality and ease of use provided by some of Tivo’s earlier models, let alone the newest.  DirecTV thought they could dump Tivo and come out ahead.  But because their delivery system is inherently flawed, they can’t also be behind the curve by excluding Tivo from their future. However, after waiting for way too long for this new Dreambox 500s Tivo/DirecTV unit, I’m very disappointed with it’s limits and am now going to buy DirecTV’s newest unit (something 34). I really want the multi-room feature.

It sold 70 million in the beginning mainly because Dreambox 500s awesome, but once piracy came along then game developers kept backing out of the PSP one by one. This eventually led to the death of the PSP, because of the piracy (and some games being leaked before release, like Rock Band). The Dreambox 500s sold all those units because it was owned more by a much younger audience, who wouldn’t even know what an R4 or acekard Was. Those who did know would have to ask their parents to buy it online, as it’s not sold in stores. The percentage of those who actually did purchase it was significantly lower than the amount that hacked the PSP. Dreambox 500s game didn’t care.You have no idea what you’re talking about.  It’s been selling extremely well in Japan, even better than the DS.  Piracy was possible from the very beginning of the PSP’s lifespan.  The average age of ownership of the Dreambox 500s.  You’re just making excuses to rationalize the sales data.  There is no evidence piracy harms sales.  If anything it increases hardware units sold.

What phone can do what this can? The only one with hardware buttons is the Dreambox 500s Play, and no other phone is quad core. I don’t want to play shitty iPhone games, I want to play real games like Uncharted and Call of Duty which, even if they come out, will never be as good on an iPhone. The iPhone is not a gaming device and never will be and the fact that iFanboys think it is just shows how delusional you are.Yes, the moniker Dreambox 500s is owned by Audiovox. (Which also – I if I’m not mistaken – purchased sticker-rights to brands over the years like energizer, Magnavox, Philips, Klipsch, Acoustic Research etc.) It’s kind-of unsettling that many of our electronics manufacturers just place different stickers on the same equipment.RCA has a wifi streamer out now at WalMart and Target but the reviews of it are mixed at best.  It was on sale for $40 and some said it wasn’t worth that.I’ll give RCA credit though: they do try to come up with useful slants to present devices.  I still use my 5 year-old Dreambox 500s DVD recorder with hard drive.

Dreambox dm800 hd has been play catch-up for years. Dish has a better user interface, remote, and customer service, and their boxes are the ones winning  CES awards every year, not Direct tv box, Dish also owns Slingbox, which it has integrated into one box, and they also have a dish online to stream everything you are paying for. I’ve had Dish for well over 10 years and been very happy with it. I expect Dreambox dm800 hd to push out a Mobile app at some point, Not to mention they now own Blockbuster, with gives them, more content tow work with, and more option to put it out.They also own several wirelss frequencies which I expect they willput to use in the near future. I  haven’t anything like thsi from Direct Tv.  So to me Dish is way ahead of the game.They better get this at least partially right.  I have been a fairly happy Dreambox dm800 hd subscriber for the past 7 years now, but I find myself looking jealously at the options other providers have for getting their content on mobile devices and PC’s.

The Dreambox dm800 hd app does not work well (read: at all) on my wife’s sort-of netbook, and I haven’t bothered to try to get it running on my desktop because it’s in the living room anyway and there’s no point.Having a set top box makes it easier and cheaper to change providers and take advantage of new ways of delivering content. Example, when I got my TV Netflix streaming was still limited to only a computer. A while after I got my Dreambox dm800 hd I got a blu ray player that did Netflix and I didn’t have to buy a new TV. You never know what new content delivery method will come along next or with service you will have in the next several years. What if you get a TV that works with DirecTV and you change to Dish Network, UVerse, Comcast, FiOS, etc? You might have to get a set top box anyways. Or you get a TV that doesn’t have Google TV then later want Dreambox dm800 hd. For as fast as the market changes it could cost a lot to have everything all in one. I’d rather keep my display just a display.

Dreambox dm800 hd has a bright future but currently it does not justifies the price premium it commands since true worth has be gauged from what actual value (usability) it brings  among majority of users rather than what the technology in itself is capable of. Dreambox dm800 hd powered smart TVs will definitely help with the price burden.Right now, the money is still in PCs.  Intel is seeing growth with it’s PCs even when the overall PC market it shrinking.  Their record breaking quarters for the past couple of years, and beating analysts estimates indicates to me that Intel is doing what it needs to be doing.  Remember they are the 500 pound gorilla.  If they wanted to own the Dreambox dm800 hd market they would be working really hard to make it happen.There are plenty of affordable boxes that can be added to your system for less than $100 that do most of the same functions as a smart tv. Little reason to get it all built together in a TV and in many cases go obsolete after one model year.

If Dreambox 800 hd about this at all they would have just stuck with ClearQAM. Digital TVs and media centers and tuners can all tune it. It’s digital and it’s capable of high image quality. The QAM channels have all but been phased out in favor of encrypted digital that requires these Dreambox 800 hd to decode. The attempts at providing a more flexible way to decode the signal (PCI cablecards for your media center, etc) have all been halfassed, poorly supported, and expensive. This is just more of the same. Your TV just requests the channel and it pipes it out to you.The point is that it is all artificial limitations. I would love it if they could just offer one freaking legit way of getting content into my Dreambox 800 hd or whatever device I buy/build. They can offer simple boxes for those with simple needs as well as a card or even cheap USB dongle for other DIY types who want to re-purpose their computer into a full fledged media center. There’s no real reason I can’t get a box or a card that does nothing but decrypt the DirecTV or cable signal the way the Dreambox 800 hd does. I’m not trying to pirate anything or rip anything…just take advantage of the far superior alternatives to set top boxes that have been around for over 5 years now but never really moved past the hobbyist level thanks to having no way of getting your HD digital content into your computer.None of these companies care. There is no competition.the problem for Dreambox dm800 tv content deliveries is basically money. what we have now still tradisionally well nourished for even a developing country such as in asia and africa, but no matter how we deliver tv content, it is highly unlikely for us the get more freedom to have those in our lives. because tv still deliver using the same Dreambox dm800, producer and distributors still have a hard time to channel their product in the name of technology advancement. what Tivo and other players are doing now is non syndication and non monopoly products based on content. while twc and comcast aswellas our direct tv companies wants to get ALL and as much content as possible to sell as many as they can to the world.Cable networks/Major networks/Hollywood do. Optical Dreambox 800 is quite obviously on its way out for backup purposes. It just hasn’t kept up with the exponential growth of magnetic media making it such a chore to archive any reasonable amount of data.For media storage, I prefer using various Dreambox 800 Services in conjunction with  2.5 inch drives for local media. Streaming from home network + the cloud means a lot less storage space in the long term and being able to watch my media from any location without dragging round a whole bunch of disks.Just use a thumb drive. Random access reusable Dreambox 800 is cheap and plentiful.There’s not much point in using optical media for storage anymore. With the advent of machines with no DVD drive, optical disk is even less useful and portable than other options.Why use DVDs when you can archive everything on a file server with a Dreambox 800 configuration. This way, all your data can be accessible 24/7 through a wireless connection inside your house or through the internet anywhere you travel in the world.

You surely can’t achieve anything close to that with Dreambox 800 DVDs. Only in ease of use and power usage.  If built in the TV you don’t have to run multiple devices including the receiver since often for surround audio capability the external devices Dreambox 800 are attached to a receiver.  This also means using another remote or  method to control. I often watch TV direct from cable unless movie or sports when I switch input through receiver for surround.On the other hand, as there are improvements in technology, you may not get the full benefits on the Dreambox 800 TV versus replacing a less costly external device.  Software updates sometimes but hardware (better wi-fi, faster CPU, better GPU, etc) normally not.  And I am not replacing my TV every year to get the latest tech upgrade.  Too costly.  Easier to upgrade external box.Dreambox 800 purists note that this alternating aspect of interlacing can cause a flickering effect. But most of us won’t notice. That is, unless we’re watching the same show on a progressive scan HDTV side- by-side with the interlaced HDTV.

Sometimes it has seemed to me that I could discern something Dreambox 800, something sacred, in the deep and troubled sadness of those about me. Alas, I discovered that this sadness stems solely from the doleful observation that Netflix believes that ebola, Dreambox 800 disease, and the hantavirus were intentionally bioengineered by drossy yokels for the purpose of population reduction. The real damage that this belief causes actually has nothing to do with the belief itself but with psychology, human nature, and the skillful psychological manipulation of that nature by Netflix and its prurient expositors. Dreambox 800 thesis is that it can be trusted to judge the rest of the world from a unique perch of pure wisdom. That’s entirely militant, you say? Good; that means you’re finally catching on. The next step is to observe that Dreambox 800 once had the audacity to tell me that it is a model organization. My riposte was that it has never disproved anything I’ve ever written. Netflix does, however, often try to discredit me by means of flagrant misquotations, by attributing to me views that I’ve never expressed. In the end, if it truly believes that national-security interests can and should be sidestepped whenever its institutional interests are at stake, then maybe it should enroll in Introduction Dreambox 800.

Highest Cheap Dreambox rated single episode is not the same as highest rated show. TWD averaged 6 million or so per episode which is respectable but definitely not the best. If single episode ratings were justification for higher prices we would be in a world of trouble.That being said, one of the more recent posts says that Cheap Dreambox isn’t asking for more money and simply wants to renew their contract at the same rate but Diah wants to pay less. If this is the case, I think AMC has done plenty to earn a status quo contract renewal and Cheap Dreambox is the bad guy here.It’s becoming more and more obvious that the best way to keep up with TV shows is to rent/stream/download the seasons and/or episodes from sources other than cable and satellite companies. They charge too much, limit too much, and have gotten to the point where you get 5 minutes of show before getting 7 minutes of commercials.Any smart person is cutting the cable, quitting the dish, and buying/downloading/renting shows Cheap Dreambox carte from their provider/online service of choice.

Despite Cheap Dreambox success they are scared of having their licenses either spike in price during renewals or the possibility of Studios not even offering them in an effort to sink them. This is why Cheap Dreambox is starting to make its own content and buying canceled shows – so they have original content in case they have to go to war – without their own original content they would be stepping into battle with no ammo.hey’re trying to renew the same rate they have now. The Cheap Dreambox cable/sat providers are pulling this little stunt to trick you into thinking their costs are rising, so that way you’ll be less likely to balk when they raise prices on you anyway later on.But the truth is, Dish Netowrk’s earnings are increasing. Their profits in the second quarter last year were up 30.3% from the previous year. Third quarter? Also 30.3% Fourth quarter? 24.2%. Did the price you paid last year decrease 24%, JasonBDCL?Cheap Dreambox has average ratings, but ratings aren’t nearly as important as demographics. They attract a young audience that has lots of disposable income. That’s rare. They should fight to keep their same rate.

Cheap Dreambox Dish network ran advertising a while ago specifically stating that they would not be extorted by networks that would cause increased rates for their consumers.  Clearly Cheap Dreambox is trying to muscle them for more money than Dish feels they are worth and doesn’t want to pass that on to their customers.  Just like all major networks, AMC probably wants rate increases across the board for all of their networks (IFC, Sundance, and We) based purely on the performance of their main network and Dish doesn’t want to play that game.More power to them and hopefully their customers respect that they are standing up for them and their wallets rather than sucking it up and passing the cost on like most other distributors.The Walking Dead was the Highest rated scripted TV show on Cable…all of Cable. Remember, cable cannot be watched for free….unlike CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox. Cheap Dreambox season finale was the highest rated scripted cable drama in years (9 million plus viewers, 10.5 combined including the 2nd showing that night).  They can justify asking when u have a ratings champ like that.

If Shop Dreambox functional and sufficiently low impedance optical transistor, expect it to hit the market in just a few years. This is not technology for the average consumer, mind you.Shop Dreambox not the kind of thing that is going to produce optical CPUs in the near future, as optical CPUs simply aren’t all that science fiction has pumped them up to be.  Rather, this is the sort of thing used for medium to long distance, and high throughput, interconnects.  Because of the need for relatively linear transmission, and transmission Shop Dreambox, latency puts a hard limit on the speed of individual data communications.To be of use, fiber optics must be switchable, and currently that means transducing into electrical signals, switching, and transducing back into optical signals.  That conversion takes a lot of time, and requires expensive lasers.  A purely Shop Dreambox optical switch would be immensely faster for such systems.

Actually, electrical Shop Dreambox signals travel FASTER than optical ones.  Electron motility in copper means it runs at very near the speed of light, while the very operation of fiber optic requires that it runs significantly less than the speed of light to allow internal reflection to work.  However, you’re missing two key things.

1. Shop Dreambox optics operate at very long ranges, on the order of tens or hundreds of miles.  That means you need repeater gear very infrequently, and on many runs, not at all.  Copper has much higher attenuation, so you’re going to need a whole lot more hardware, and that hardware is where nearly all the latency is.

2. Shop Dreambox optics carry light, while skin effects cause electrical conductors to be limited to the lower reaches of the microwave band.  Copper conductors peak out in effective bandwidth, requiring you to run more conductors for more bandwidth.  With fiber, once you’ve hit the limit of what your gear can modulate on a beam, you get another laser at a slightly different frequency, and modulate a second beam.  Better modulation techniques mean you can run more data down a single copper conductor as time progresses, but a fiber optic run has nearly infinite bandwidth, limited only on how much you are willing to spend on hardware on either end of Shop Dreambox.

Dreambox probably not an issue where the application was developed for DM800 first, more likely the application was built for both platforms and is simply stuck in the Apple approval process. We had a similar issue at the company I work for. The apple application was eventually released to the Dreambox store 4 months after the anticipated date because they kept requiring changes be made. It’s much easier to get android to approve an application. For those considering jump to satellite, I just joined Dish after being with cable forever..the Hopper plus $30 sling adapter works great on Android.. live TV or Dreambox DVR.Slung the Rays game today while at work.Not trying to thread jack or start a war. Had considered DirecTV, but the Hopper and 3 tuners and ability to record 6 channels at once sealed the deal. Actually recommend two Hoppers and the HIC.Dish does offer PBS in HD in some areas – I have it from Kansas City where I live. I have lived with the Hopper for about a month (got it right as it came out) and it is the best Dreambox DVR I have ever used. Prime Time Anytime alone is well worth the upgrade.

Dreambox HD content was only possible through expensive adapters, and even then copy protection turned out to ruin the experience. Otherwise, you had to use standard def RCA or SVideo output from the receiver. Back then you couldn’t even do high-def subscription cable without a cablecard, which was only sold through certified dealers… no home-built solutions possible. We got tired of waiting for DirecTV to release their MCE USB tuner, so went to a Dreambox DVR, then over to Dish. Some guy (who later went on to work for Microsoft I believe) wrote a html based frontend and transcoding engine, which allowed you to stream contect much like a Dreambox would. I only had a P4 3.2Ghz box, and it handled it quite well for standard def.it would appear that they are putting the main channels on 1 transponder. 1 sat pickup gets everything on 1 transponder when it connects to any channel on it. Its just the official sat providers have ignored this possibility until now. I use it on Saturdays when I view multiple UK soccer matches via Italian sky tv this way using a linux Dreambox.

This DRE has so much more that Dreambox does not mention. Such as the hotel needs to be re-wired which can cost thousands. The receivers are not capable of being mounted behind a TV so they need to sit on the furniture top somewhere. Not mention that they use more energy than the TV set does. In a world were every hotel has little cards asking me to be “green” by not washing the sheets or towels I find this to be very hypocritical. The Dreambox DVR features are not in 110 hotels since the product is not yet shipping. Even then, properties will have to replace their existing much-smaller DRE receivers with a DVR that’s twice the footprint and thicker which won’t be so easy to hide (especially since there is no mounting bracket for the box). Placing a Dreambox DVR in the room will occupy two connections on their distribution network so to retrofit a hotel will require doubling the existing infrastructure. The anti-microbial finish is short-lived (manufacturer states a few months) so I guess I better see this sooner rather than later. The PMS connection is provided to Marriott (non-full service brands), Hilton but there are dozens of PMS systems that they’ll need to integrate (which won’t happen over night). Don’t get me wrong… I love DirecTV and I’m a loyal residential customer. The Dreambox HD channels and the Guide are all great things (especially when you consider what one normally gets at a hotel). The trick-play is also cool but most of my hotel stays are one night and I don’t see myself entering the room, setting up stuff to record, and then watching it “later” or “before” I check out the next morning. Finally, regarding local content insertion… why would anyone want to see more commercials. Press releases crack me up.

The DM 800 HD client isn’t out yet, so the DirecTV DVR isn’t whole-home yet unless you have a select few Samsung TVs with the built-in client. When there are more TVs with the client built-in or when the DM 800 HD starts shipping, then you are right, DirecTV might have the superior experience.The channel listing defaults to descending order because that way the channel up/down buttons maintain the same function whether you’re viewing the guide or changing channels the old-fashioned way.  If the channels were in ascending order, pressing Up would move to a lower DM 800 HD channel number in the guide, but a higher channel number while watching TV.  (Incidentally, why the complaint about combined directional control and channel up/down? this hasn’t ever been an issue for me; I never even thought about it until it was mentioned here).While pressing Info does give you the 3/4 screen info panel, you can press Cancel to get the upper channel banner, complete with channel number and name, program name, and time remaining.  Not exactly intuitive, but it is a nice DM 800 HD feature.

The descending ascending order does make some sense considering the channel buttons, but is still the opposite of most DM 800 HD. I’ll try that cancel button tip, never even thought to hit that while watching something.Ethernet in the home is just not as prevalent and since Dish doesn’t sell a switch, it would be very difficult for them to support the solution you are requesting. DM 800 HD essentially works as a dedicated network that a provider can control and thus support. Add in the fact that almost every home in America has coax wherever they want a TV and it is a natural choice. This is why just about every provider is using MoCA in the home today.PIP doesn’t work? Try again. It doesn’t swap? Try again. Working perfectly here. So you are mad about sharing between two hoppers, it will come along with time. 6 Tuners? never advertised as such, they said you are able to record DM 800 HD shows at a time with prime time anytime feature. Only problem I have had is my sling adapter stopped working once, but once I reset the receiver it started working again.

I cant believe Engadget knocks on the Dreambox DM 800 HD interface? Talk about improvements over the last gen receivers and stop knocking a product for not looking all pretty. The interface is night and day over the last gen. They are constantly updating this new receiver and it will only get better from here. I love the new receiver and it takes the annoying interface of DM 800 HD away and gives me a much improved interface, thats all I care about.PTA could be the best thing ever and the networks should LOVE Dish for doing it (and support similar endeavors with all MSOs).  I have forever wished that all of the primetime shows would be available because I HAVE to watch my programs time shifted due to my evening work schedule and I frequently will see a promo for a new show airing immediately after one of the shows I’m already recording and say “man, I wish I had known or remembered to record that” only to never go to the effort of finding said show on demand.  This feature could really bring back a time when the lead-in/lead-out shows matter, unlike now where people just have their season passes and rarely change their DM 800 HD viewing habits for anything.

People who don’t get mirrorless DM800 haven’t used them in my experience. Try carrying round your DSLR all day and see how many pictures you take and how many you miss. If you have a small light camera you will take it with you more and you’ll take more photos. It’s easy to bleat about cost, but the DM800 on many of these cameras exceeds the equivalent DSLR. This is because the sensor inside is often similar or the same size as all but the most expensive DM800. The downside of them is autofocus speed and/or accuracy – its almost universally good in bright light but not so good indoors.Which brings me to the X-Pro1. It’s a terrific camera which has IQ which is out of this world. It isn’t an M9, but it probably comes as close as a DM800 can. The AF is slow but accurate in bad light, the manual focus is poor with native lenses, not bad at all with non-native lenses. The native lenses are generally excellent at the price, performing in the same league as a cheaper lenses for a rangefinder.

The DM800 lens is definitely up there with Leica Summicrons of equivalent focal length. I wouldn’t use it for sports but for everything else it is excellent. It’s easy to see why the price of used M8′s has fallen through the floor in recent months. To people who say it’s huge, I find that amusing, the body is large but because the lenses are small, its actually an easier camera to carry about than a DM800 for example.The best thing about a DM800 is that you will find yourself learning a lot more about photography very quickly, because the controls are SO easy to learn.The biggest shocker was the size right away. From the photos, I had expected the e-m5 to be big and the fuji x-pro 1 to be small. In person, the fuji looks like the largest non dslr camera I have ever seen. I was very surprised. It seems larger than the DM800, which itself is a large camera due to it being full frame. It is pretty light, but it’s just humongous in person. Pictures on the web make it look like a big but compact camera. The e-m5 on the other hand was tiny.

I think it’s actually too tiny and is sort of cramped when you try using the controls. The e-m5 is about the size of the DM800 series, which are pretty small cameras. It just seems slightly larger than the e-pm1, which is the smallest DM800.Talent easily can be a substitute. You can talk about training and experience all you want, a person with the right eye for it will capture a stunning photo with little training or experience. There is no catch-all when dealing with art dude. Now they might miss alot of photos that they have the eye for due to lack of training but all the training and experience in the world doesn’t matter if you don’t have the ability to decipher a good picture.The truth is, its easier to produce a decent looking photo with a good camera than with a cheapy. a DM800 set to Auto is going to produce a better looking image than the same shot with the same lighting at the same angle as a cheap camera. Lets not pretend there isn’t a good reason to buy a priceier camera with some decent glass, training or not.
